The YOU:KO – Youth Congress is organized by the peer groups YEPs and TeamGlobal and is funded by the German Federal Agency for Civic Education (Bundeszentrale für politische Bildung/bpb) and the Deutsch-Französiches Jugendwerk (DFJW/OFAJ).
The YOU:KO 2023 is a platform that brings together a diverse group of young individuals to engage in discussions on current and politically relevant issues. The forum is conducted under a specific motto that guides the discussions and helps formulate clear goals and positions. This year’s congress is being held under the theme „GénérAktion: your impact counts!“. The congress welcomes not only German youths but also French participants to take part in the discussions and contribute to the shaping of future policies.
This year, I co-hosted two workshops on sustainable development and the UNSDGs (United Nation Sustainable Development Goals) with Abdallah Khazene, an Algerian expert on citizenship and civic participation:
Workshop No I: R.A.I.S.E.: Raising Awareness through Inclusive Sustainable Education
LEVEL: basic to good level
In our R.A.I.S.E. workshop, we will embark on a journey to discover the various dimensions of sustainable development. By increasing our collective knowledge about sustainability and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs), we will raise awareness and foster a sense of responsibility towards our surroundings and the wider global community. The power of collaboration and shared experiences will enable us to adapt successful approaches to our local contexts, inspiring positive change in our communities. Let us come together to build a network of young ambassadors, united in our commitment to creating a better future for ourselves and the world we live in. (Abdallah and Lisa, our workshop hosts, are fluent in English, German, and Arabic and are available to assist with translations for interactive modules and inputs.)
Workshop No II: SDGs Game – from local to regional, national, and global
LEVEL: good to advanced level
In our SDG GAME workshop, we dive deeper into the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs) through a game, gaining new perspectives on world-wide challenges. Together, we will realize that addressing individual obstacles must be approached at different levels – local, regional, national, and/or global. By critically discussing those varieties of approaches and playfully dealing with diverse challenges from different countries, we empower our participants to generate an understanding of the transnational and transcultural dimensions of sustainable development. Our workshop inspires ideas and meaningful actions that empower young citizens to become active ambassadors of change. (Abdallah and Lisa, our workshop hosts, are fluent in English, German, and Arabic and are available to assist with translations for interactive modules and inputs.)
